Company Officials Arrested for Providing Encrypted Phones to Criminals

The FBI has taken down an unscrupulous tech company that facilitated criminal activities by providing encrypted communications. The international criminal communication service was dismantled by law enforcement in early in 2018. The CEO just pleaded guilty to providing drug cartels with encrypted phones. Criminals were then able to communicate securely to setup drug deals and coordinate smuggling activities.

We must all recognize that tech is just a tool and as such, can be used for good or to support malicious activities. We all want the tremendous benefits that technology can deliver, but must also accept how a few will misuse tech to satisfy their own greedy ambitions. Balance and control is always the goal.

Thanks to the FBI for keeping tension in the system and pursuing such bad actors! Without the deterrence of consequences, the threats gain momentum quickly to victimize huge numbers of people.
